Friend of the Sea was founded by Paolo Bray, Director of International Programs - Dolphin-Safe Project / Earth Island Institute. Around a few million dolphins are estimated to have been saved from death in tuna fishing nets thanks to the Dolphin-Safe Project, which has started the sustainable seafood movement. Friend of the Sea is the only sustainable fishing programme recognised and supervised globally by a National Accreditation Body.

Friend of the Earth is an international certification programme for sustainable agriculture and farming.
It has been developed on the basis of the SAFA (Sustainability Assessment of Food and Agriculture systems) guidelines set by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and its principles are based on the protection of the ecosystems within which certified companies carry out their activities.
